With traffic so congested, how do the emergency services get to the scene of an accident where men are working and there is no hard shoulder?
Access roads have been built along the whole stretch of the motorway where the works for the Third Lane are taking place, which can be reached from outside. There are 40 of them altogether. Two helipads have also been built to allow the air ambulance to land.
All the rescue services, the fire brigade and traffic police have a map with their exact locations and a code so they can access them in an emergency.
