Why should I use the right lane?

Always use the freest lane on the right and go with the flow without disrupting the
traffic.
Left lanes are only for overtaking.

If you do not use the freest lane on the right, you are breaking article 143, paragraph 5 of the Italian Highway Code:
“when a carriageway has two or more lanes in one direction, drivers must use the freest lane on the right.”

Failure to respect these rules can lead to a fine of between Euro 43 and Euro 163 and 4 points
(8 for newly-qualified drivers) are docked from your licence.
